- Cloud computing (providing technology-enabled services over the Internet -- "in the cloud")

- Web 2.0 (social networking sites, blogs, wikis) -- though many of these are already established tech and not so much "emerging" anymore

good idea. Invite Motricity to attend or sponsor the event. They are located in Durham but are in process of moving their facilities to Washington state. They specialize in delivering online content to mobile devices.
Alex,
We at ibiblio would love to help out. The School of Information and Library Science and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication both have classes that touch on or deeply involve these technologies. I'm sure my colleagues in both would be glad to help out on the conference.
In the Triangle, Red Hat, IBM, rPath and others are involved in the Cloud and in Virtualization.
More soon
Frank and Paul, thanks for your comments. Motricity and ibiblio are great resources for such a conference. Please let's keep the ball rolling on this and see if we can organize such an event; it will be great for the school, the developers, and the users.
I think a conference like that would be great here at UNC. I would certainly attend and encourage many of the folks I support to attend. Let me know how I can be of assistance.

It might be a good idea to meet and talk about this as we start to formulate ideas. Then again, being that we want to talk about emerging tech, we could connect via Adobe ConnectNow web conferencing tool: http://www.adobe.com/acom/connectnow/
For up to 3 participants, it's free.
I'd love to be involved in helping promote it... Steve Eisenstadt, Page One PR
we've done a number of unconferences in the triangle using the barcamp format aka BarCampRDU http://barcamp.pbwiki.com/BarCampRDU and some with only slightly more structure; a bloggers conference, a podcasting conference and three Science Blogging/Science on the Web conferences. They
worked great.
The BarCamp resources are easy to use. Anton is the master of his own
Science conference resources see the current conference which will be inJanuary but is fully subscribed now! http://scienceonline09.com/
You don't need permission -- except to reserve rooms ;->
Great idea! I like the mentioned topics, I'm particularly interested in:
-Mobile technology (including sensor networks)
-Context/Location-aware apps
-Smart spaces
-Grid and Cloud computing
-Agent technology
-Digital humanities
-Visualization environments
-Virtual environments and serious games
Cheers!
